Gus

HAPPY IN SEATTLE

Gus went from a miserable existence to living like a king.  His previous owner was an elderly woman with dementia who lived by herself.  Poor gus was most likely kept locked up either in a crate or very small space as his toe nails were so long he was unable to walk!  His coat was matted to the skin and pulling on it.  Fortunately someone learned of this horror and was able to get him out of there.  When we got Gus the first thing we did was shave him and clip the nails which by this time had grown into his pads.  We initially thought he had hip issues as he walked tentatively with a strange gait and was unsteady.  He had no muscle mass in this thighs.  There turned out to be nothing wrong anatomically - he had been so restricted for so long and unable to walk that he had to learn it all again!  Of course there was the emotional damage as well.  He was withdrawn and distant and had a heartbreaking hollowness in his eyes which spoke of years of neglect and suffering.  Through several weeks of TLC and exercise, Gus started to blossom emotionally and physically.  His strength and agility returned and his spirit arose,  He was now ready to embark on his journey to find his forever home - one that would nurture and cherish him and provide the necessary care.  After a couple of weeks in his foster home in Seattle his perfect fit materialized.  Gus now has a 14 year old four-legged buddy and two compassionate dads who adore him.  Gus will live like a king for the rest of his life as he so richly deserves.
