Dear Jeanine,
Casey has made
his home with us for more than three years now. We
call him our alpha puff ball because he usually
manages to be the leader of our pack. He is very
sweet and calm, but has very definite ideas about
where he wants to go on his walks. Thanks to his dog
park experiences and visits with the dogs we meet on
walks, he has developed confidence and socialization
skills with other dogs.
He
sometimes licks our students' toes, sits on their
feet, or otherwise demands attention just as they
are trying to concentrate on Beethoven or Brahms.
Everybody laughs, and Casey is happy to be the
center of attention.
Casey took a little vacation up to Lake Arrowhead recently, and here are a couple of pictures of him. As you can see, he enjoyed posing next to the dogwood tree. By the way, the Lake Arrowhead Resort welcomes dogs. Casey had a wonderful time meeting other dogs in the hotel's lobby! We can't thank you enough, Jeanine, for being Casey's protector and escort on his journey to a new life with us. He is a very dear part of our family. Bill and Delores

We
rescued Lulu B (formally called
Taffy) from you about a year ago. We absolutely
adore her and she gets along well with our little
pom named Poochi. I thought I’d forward you her
recent pictures of her and let you know that she is
doing well and is well taken care of.She loves
hanging out in the front patio with us and enjoy the
sunshine.
She is a great companion and is a big part of our
family now. She really is a perfect match for us,
thanks to you!

We've
had GIZMO (formally known as Patrick) for a year and
two months now. We had a rough start as even though
he was really cute and loved the family, he did not
share these sentiments with anyone visiting. We hired
an animal consultant, which sort of worked, but
resigned ourselves to the fact that GIZMO would need a
muzzle when people came over. Time passed & my son
noticed that when some of his friends came over, Gizmo
no longer needed a leash & muzzle. Then my daughter
had a
couple of friends over, we had our backyard landscaped
with lots of people coming and going, and Gizmo was
fine. So I guess as the saying goes, "good things
come to those who wait". I attribute Gizmo's change
to finally be comfortable in his own surroundings,
knowing that he is loved, and no one is going to hurt
him.
Gizmo adores his family, especially loves to follow
his mom everywhere and is quite happy. We say he has
a bladder like a camel as he can hold himself all
during the day and wont' even ask to go to the
bathroom in the morning until his mom goes downstairs
with him.
Thanks Jeanine for your great work!

Jeanine:
I
thought you might like to see my granddaughter,
Destiny, with the 2 rescues from Bichons and Buddies.
Cassie in the front was rescued from you 2 ½ years ago
because she had luxating patella’s and was a biter and
not socialized. Nobody wanted her. She is doing so
much better but still nips Destiny from time to time
but Destiny keeps coming back for more. Dolly,
formerly Faith, is an old girl of about 10+, a mangy
mess and reportedly not housetrained when I got her
last September. It took me 5 months to clear up the
mange and she only has 5 or 6 teeth left but what a
personality. She now has a beautiful silky coat and
we just love her to death.
Destiny and I take the Girls for walks regularly with their matching halters and leashes. Destiny takes one and I take the other. It is quite a sight to see. Thanks so much for all you do for rescue.

Dear Jeanine,
It
has been a year and a half since I got Snowball
(formerly Angie) from Bichons and Buddies. She is the
cutest little sweetheart ever, and she is so happy!
She loves to run around on the tennis court in our
backyard with our little white, male terrier and who
looks just like her.
One night, I came home from work and called her name. She normally comes running, but this time there was no Snowball. I called over and over, desperately searching the backyard as well as every corner of the house. I was in tears by the time I telephoned my husband and accused him of possibly letting her out the front door. He became frantic, too. No one called about a found pup, and the microchip company had no information about my lost dog.
After more than two hours of searching, I heard the faint thumping of a tail. The sound was coming from inside the kitchen cabinet where I keep the big bag of dog food. I opened the cabinet door, and there was Snowball, grinning and wagging her tail as if she had just played a funny joke on me.
It was then that I learned about Snowball’s bizarre attraction to dog food. It has become a habit for her to sit for part of each day next to the huge bag. I usually keep it in the living room so she is not isolated from the family in a kitchen cabinet.
Thank you for this delightful little girl. She is a joy to everyone!

We are a therapy team. Oliver is registered
with Therapy Dogs, Inc., R.E.A.D. (Reading Education
Assistance Dogs), Intermountain Therapy Dogs, and P.J.'s
Pals (where children read to dogs at libraries). He
sports CGC after his name and we are now working on
"long line ". After this advanced training we are planning on doing AKC novice competition. Oliver
has Indefinite Life Privilege with the AKC so he can compete in all events
even though he is not AKC registered.
I am so proud of him! Thank you for allowing me to have him. He is very special.

Hi Jeanine,
Hope
this message finds you well and in good spirits!
It is hard to believe that it has been almost a year since we adopted Theo.I thought you would find it interesting to know what Theo has been up to.
Theo has become a happy and healthy dog!! It is always amazing to me how compatible we are together. He is mellow, playful and SO loving. He is interested in life! He enjoys his walks and visits the neighbors while I am at work. He wants to be among people more than he does dogs!
He is on a regular schedule of grooming, teeth cleaning and nail cutting at puppy salons! He is even more handsome after a fresh haircut!
As you know it is characteristic for Bichons to have tearing and staining. My groomer says it is in the genes. It was always my hope to keep this under control. I found a product that was effective called Eye Envy. The best finding though is to give Theo parsley flakes daily in his food and one tsp. of flax oil in his food 4X a week. It was miraculous!
Boy, does Theo have an appetite!! He will eat fruits and vegetables. I give him baby carrots for treats! He is still eating the Natural Balance product and loves every bite! However, he is on the reduced calorie formula. I am grateful that he appreciates his food. I have not forgotten how he was so undernourished a year ago. His favorite food is Cadet Real Meat Gourmet Bull Sticks.
In summary, both Jerry & I have a real connection with Theo and he with us! Since Theo is my first dog it still amazes me how true it is that your dog can be your best friend.
I am happy and proud to announce that Theo completed Beginners & Advanced Dog Obedience Classes and recently completed the Canine Good Citizen class. He achieved his AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate!!
Our goal now that he has received this certificate is to learn more about the Love on a Leash program. I am exited about this opportunity to participate in such an outstanding organization and know that he would be great!
Theo thanks you again for rescuing him. Without you he would not have found us!
What a difference a year makes!

Fran Grothe

Dear Jeanine,
It
has been nearly a year since I adopted Kiana and changed
his name to Cosmo. You wouldn't recognize him from the
painfully thin little fellow I first met. He's happy,
healthy and thriving. I think the attached photos say
it all. I think he's the cutest dog in the world.
Cosmo loves to ride in the car and go visiting. He loves people and other dogs. In March, he flew with me (not in cargo)to Portland, Oregon, for two weeks and had a wonderful time. We are going back there for 10 days at Christmas time. All my friends adore Cosmo, so he has lots of "aunties" and "uncles." I think he was taken from his mother at too young an age because each night he nurses on a pillow to lull himself to sleep. It's very cute. He likes to hide dog biscuits in the sofa cushions and in the blankets on my bed, and gets upset if I find them because he has to start all over again. He plays with his toys like a puppy. I can't imagine my life without him. Thank you for bringing us together.
Best regards,
Mary Rocco
