Tucker

Tucker3This beautiful sweet bichon mix was hanging out at a truck stop in Bakersfield – filthy but friendly,  just looking for some food.  Luckily a good samaratain couldn’t just leave him and of course he had no tags and was found to have no chip.   Judging by his amazing personality and the fact he’s housebroken and knows sit and stay, he must have belonged to someone.  The person who found him had taken him home for a couple of days until she was able to connect with us and reported he was fantastic with her little kids.  Tucker is about 2-3 years old and he’s now neutered, up to date with shots and microchipped.   This incredible guy will make the perfect pet.

Felix

Felix3This amazingly affectionate, happy boy was dumped at a super high kill shelter because he had a hernia and they didn’t want to spend any money on him.  Unfortunately they waited until it was so severe that he was in excruciating pain by the time we got him out of the shelter.  He had emergency surgery to repair it and now all is fine and he’s certainly one happy camper and on to a better life.  Felix is a 12 pound 2-3 year old bichon/poodle mix who will look ten times better once we groom him but have to wait till the stitches are out.  He loves to be on you lap or just in your presence and will be quite vocal about his loneliness when being left.  He settles down but we feel he would be most happy in a home where someone was around alot or had another dog.  He gets along well with other dogs but it truly is people he’s connected to.  Felix is a really well behaved little guy and through all he’s been through he’s maintained a loving demeanor and the patience of Job.

Fiona

Fiona1Fiona was found as a stray by a lady who had four dogs of her own and couldn’t keep her but didn’t want to send her to the pound.  She posted flyers all over and ran ads and gave it 3 weeks but no one surfaced to claim this sweet girl.  She’s an adorable schnauzer mix who’s about 13 pounds and about 3 years old.  She’ll be absolutely stunning when her coat grows back.  Fiona is very affectionate and has a sweet demeanor.  She loves to be cuddled and is very gentle.  She’d be a great family dog.

Sonny

Sony1Sonny is an exquisite 2-3 year old poodle boy that was dumped by his owners in a Bakersfield shelter stating “they didn’t have time.”  He was in such bad shape they thought about pressing charges for animal cruelty.  His coat was so matted and urine soaked that it had to be shaved down but he’ll obviously be a real beauty when it grows back.  Poor Sonny is very timid right now and doesn’t know how to walk on a leash or else he’s just too scared to.  I was calling him Klingon since when you pick him up, he clenches you with his little paws and tucks his head on your shoulder.  He gets along well with other dogs.  I know this guy’s personality is just going to blossom and it will be truly rewarding and fulfilling to see that happen.

Nicole

Nicole6Nicole is our very special girl who has come a long way since we first got her in December 09.  She languished in a shelter for a month after being hit by a car which caused her entire pelvis to be pushed foward.  They did nothing for her and her little body healed the best it could.  By the time we got her out she was walking with a strange gait and there was a visible abnormality with her hips.  Nicole underwent medical treatment and physical therapy to regain strength in her back end and regain continence since the nerves had been affected.  She remained a sweet, happy-go-lucky fun-loving little angel through the whole time and is now ready for her forever home where she’ll brighten your life and keep you smiling.  All Nicole needs is someone to take her out frequently or have a doggie door.  She loves other dogs and is extremely playful and rambunctious.  She’ only about 2 years old and weighs 15 pounds.  Once you meet this amazing exuberant girl you’ll be inspired.  Please consider giving this precious soul the home she deserves.

Duffy

Duffy1Duffy is a classic example of a diamond in the rough.  Just check out these before and after pics!  He’s a quiet and affectionate little bichon mix who’s about two years old and weighs about 10 pounds.  He was most definitely neglected but not abused as he is trusting and cuddly and loves to be held and told what a good boy he is.  Which is totally true.  This little guy is great on a leash and in a car and has a docile laid-back temperment which puts him in our category of a “no brainer” – meaning EASY!  Duffy gets along great with other dogs and would make a great addition to any family.

Cotton

cotton_main

Cotton is a gorgeous bichon mix that is super sweet and affectionate and only about 2 years old.  He weighs 12 pounds and has a beautiful thick non-shedding coat.  Cotton gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has a sweet passive personality which makes him very easy going and patient.  These pics don’t do him justice (it was raining so had to take inside!) but will be getting better ones soon.  Better yet, just come meet him for yourself to see what a great dog this little guy is.

Princess

Princess5Princess is an adorable little 1-2 year old bichon/lhasa mix who weighs approx 13 pounds.  Princess has remarkable coloring and her non-shedding coat will be gorgeous when it all grows out.  She’s extremely affectionate and bonds quickly.  She gets along well with other dogs and is excellent on a leash and well behaved in the car.  Princess would be best in an adult only home.

Tootsie

Tootsie3Tootsie is an adorable little Bichon/shih tzu mix who’s about 2-3 years old.  She was extremely matted and had to be shaved down but that beautiful coat will grow back in no time.  She weighs about 8-10 pounds and is the perfect size to take everywhere.  She loves car rides and is great on a leash.  Tootsie gets along great with other dogs and is wonderful with kids.  She’s got a sweet mellow temperment but definitely has a playful side and loves to play fetch with her stuffed toys.  Tootsie is a sweetheart that will make a wonderful companion.

Ricky

Ricky1This beautiful bichon/poodle mix is about 1 – 1/2 years old and weighs 18 pounds.  He’s quite the energizer bunny and I would swear he has super balls in those feet of his.  Ricky is very playful and affectionate and definitely needs an active family with a yard.  He gets along well with other dogs and is great with kids.  Ricky could use some obedience training to teach him not to jump up on people and since he’s so responsive and smart, training will be a snap.  He’s very loving dog who wants to please and will make the perfect addition to any family.

Leo

Leo_main

Leo is an amazing 8 MONTH old puppy that survived a brutal dog attack which resulted in having to have his eye removed. The other is perfectly fine and Leo’s other superficial wounds he sustained have healed up. This reslient little guy is just as gregarious and happy as if it never happened and has absolutely NO fear of other dogs, big or small! He’s of course a very playful pup and extremely affectionate. When his beautiful coat grows back over the shaved area of the removed
eye it will totally cover the area and give him a stylish look :)

Sandy

Sandy_mainSandy2Sandy3

Sandy is a super sweet and loving 1 year old girl who loves belly rubs and snuggling on your lap. She’s playful and animated and loves to romp around and play with her stuffed toys. She’ll definitely need some basic obedience training but she’s eager to please and will make a wonderful companion.

Lou

Lou3Lou is a 6 year old neutered  Bichon whose life hasn’t been so great. He spent the first six years with his very ill mother in Florida. He was never walked, never trained and never socialized with other dogs. His entire life was spent cooped up in a small, humid apartment. When his mother went on an organ transplant list, her doctor told her she had to get rid of her dog or he might make her sick (!). Last I checked having a dog actually kept people healthier but her doctor obviously isn’t an animal person. She had Lou flown to LA to live with her brother and his wife and after a few weeks they relinquished him as they were worried he was “too much” for their very elderly dog.  Lou is now with a foster home that consists of  2 German Shepherds, 1 Doberman, 1 old BIchon, 1 very crabby Dalmatian, 1 old Jindo. He loves being part of a pack, loves every dog he ever met and is good on leash. He’s a happy guy who gets to meet lots of people and is now well-socialized and perfectly  housetrained and is crazy about his toys. He wrestles with the Doberman and the German Shepherds all day long.  Lou is not a barker and has no separation anxiety.  He’s just the perfect bichon boy looking for his forever home.

Noodle

Noodle3Noodle1Noodle is the name the shelter gave this little guy and once we picked him up we understood why.  This wiggle worm is a bundle of fun and sweetness and his exhuberance is manifest by a wiggly body wag.  This tiny little 1 year old is only about 6 pounds and loves all the attention he can get.  He’s a happy-go-lucky guy that’s sure to put a smile on your face.  Noodle gets along fine with other dogs but can tend to be a pest so unless his match is just as feisty, this fido is probably better off as an only dog.

Lamby

Lamby3Lamby (aka Ms. piggy) didn’t used to look like this.  She was a pleasantly plump super sweet and affectionate little bichon girl who at that time was about 4-5 years old.   And weighed about 13 pounds.  I know.  I adopted her out to an elderly lady 5 years ago.  The elderly woman at that time was in pretty good shape and active.  Unfortunately she must have gone downhill and induldged Lamby with who knows what for years until she passed away.  Although she assured me (and I had talked to the daughter) that should something happen to her, lamby would be well cared for.  Well, I guess her daughter had a memory lapse and was trying to GIVE AWAY Lamby to anyone walking in to East Valley Shelter one afternoon!  She stood outside the door to the shelter and instead of walking in and scanning the dog (which would have and eventually did come back to me!) OR paying the lousy $15 or $20 bucks to turn her over to the shelter, she tried to save a couple bucks and pawn her off on some random person!  Fortunately someone told the shelter worker who went out and took the dog, scanned her and called me immediately.  That call really made me feel I failed my little Lamby.  It also made me want to find the daughter giving her away and sell her to a slave trader on some forsaken island to spend the rest of her life trapped in unwanted captivity.  After I pulled my thoughts away from anger I immediately picked up poor Lamby.  She’s still her sweet and affectionate self albeit it about 8 pounds heavier!  We’ve done a complete workup on Lamby including blood panel, xrays, urinalysis, etc.  Everything is pretty good for the most part except that she needs to lose weight (duh!) to take the load off her back and she has a mild intermittent cough which is due to a trachea condition caused by walking her on a leash (as opposed to a HARNASS) and her pulling.  We also did Lamby’s teeth (so she lost only 3 which was amazing!) which are now in good shape.  All we want for Lamby is a FOREVER PERMENANT home for her to spend the rest of her happy and wiggly butt days.  Oh, she gets along great with other dogs and is a sweet, affectionate happy girl.

Nelson

Nelson3Nelson is a cute and loveable 1 year old Chi mix who weighs about 14 pounds.  He sat in the shelter for over a month with a leg that was broken approximately four months before that!  In all that time he didn’t lose his sweet disposition.  We came to his rescue and got his leg fixed which required a pin, an external fixater and a bone graft!  He came through it all with flying colors and will regain full use of the leg and the metal will be removed in about a month.  What a trooper this  guy is!  He deserves a wonderful home forever home as his reward for hanging in there!  He’s great with other dogs, very gentle and docile and NOT a barker.  Just a loving sweet pooch who would be ever grateful to have a home of his own.

Monty

Monty6Monty is approximately 3-4 years old and weighs about 10 pounds.  This poor little guy was a matted mess.  The sheler he selter did a hack job on his coat but fortunately it will grow back quickly and he’ll be a stunning guy once it does.  Monty is a happy and outgoing little guy who loves to be held and petted.  He’s calm and quiet and great in a car and on a leash.  He gets along well with other dogs and is good with kids.

Piper needs to find a new home.

Piper2Piper is a beautiful 3-4 year old Bichon mix boy who weighs 25 pounds. Piper is a love bug who always greets his family with tail wags and kisses and loves to cuddle in your lap.  He is playful and loves to go on walks or just sunbathe on the porch.  He likes to play with other dogs and the bigger the dog the better.   Piper is an alpha meaning he likes to be in charge. He is dedicated to his owners, the quintessential watchdog.  Piper needs to be in a structured house without a lot of people coming and going as he is protective of his home and family.  Once he is properly introduced, Piper is fine.  He has never had any issues with children, however, it would be best for him to be in an adult home.

Piper has been leash trained, can sit, stay and lie down while on a leash as well.  He is quite smart and would benefit and enjoy further training. He is also crate trained, but in currently not sleeping in his crate.

Piper is the perfect boy for someone looking for loyalty and love.  He gives back tenfold the love you give him.

Skye

skye_mainskye10SkyeSkye is an adorable 4-5 yr old Fox Terrier/Jack Russel mix. This little guy is 14 pounds of pure love. He loves to play fetch, go on walks and snuggle watching TV next to his human. He loves people and gets along fine with other dogs but with his alpha personality it would have to be a pretty passive mate.   Skye would make the perfect fly ball dog (a fun sport for both humans and pooches) as he’s super smart and energetic or simply the perfect companion for an active person.  He’s housebroken and has had extensive obedience/behavioral training at which he exceled.  Skye is ready to share his love with some lucky person.
